How to Build a Fanbase from Scratch
Building a loyal fan base is essential for any successful band or musician. We created this blog to make your job easier when trying to savvy marketers for your brand without breaking the bank (and some of these might actually make you money!)
Step One is always to start with a killer brand.
We have a short checklist on what we recommend you make sure you have before getting on some of these other platforms in our previous blog Building A Local Buzz For Your Cover Band (When You Have No Fanbase).
Ok! Now that you have your branding taken care of, you are set-up to get discovered on music discovery websites!
Get On Spotify, but don’t just stop there; we want you to go a step further! Submit your music to Spotify so it can be considered and added to the platform. It’s a great way to keep your current fanbase excited about you and for them to share your music with their friends. Next, search for popular playlist creators in your genre and email them, ask them to add your music to their playlist. It sounds so simple, but this little bit of effort can go a long way! Some creators blow-up overnight and gain a new stream of income!
Get Featured On Blogs, this one is a little more tricky if you are strictly a local band, but still not impossible. Use good ole’ Google to help you with this. Do a quick search for local music blogs, newspapers, and venues that post blogs about their upcoming performances. Start contacting each of them, include your upcoming gigs, your Spotify playlist of your most popular songs, and your website so they can see how great you are! Just these emails will increase your exposure, establish credibility, and open new opportunities for your band to grow its fanbase.
Signup for Jukebox Live, it’s an app designed by musicians for musicians AND fans. When available, it will help you foster a relationship with your current fans while giving you the ability to promote your upcoming gigs to other music lovers in the area!
Implementing these methods will increase your fan base (and help you keep your current fans happy). It’s important to stay consistent and connected with everyone you reach out to and your fans. Get creative, think outside the box, find out what your fans love, and give it to them!
